Countercurrent Extraction with Extract Reflux (the Janecke Diagram)

Description

A mixture of styrene and ethylbenzene is to be separated using diethylene glycol Equilibrium data at 298 K for this ternary system are given by Benitez in 2002 see reference in the Details section below You can set off composition of styrene in the feed raffinate and extract phases using the sliders This Demonstration plots the Janecke diagram and displays the number of equilibrium stages needed to achieve product specifications Tie lines are plotted in brown The operating lines for the raffinate stripping section and the extract enriching section are displayed in cyan and orange respectively The feed location is the red dot and finally the difference points are represented by the green dots The magenta and blue curves are the solvent concentrations on a solventfree basis and in the raffinate and extract phases against solute concentrations on a solventfree basis and in the raffinate and extract phases
