This television program presents the story of the catastrophic flood unleashed by the draining of glacial Lake Missoula in western Montana about 15,000 years ago. Materials available on the website include an illustrated article on what the lake might looked like, and an interview with Vic Baker, an expert on the unusual landscape (the 'scablands') created by the flood. He discusses what it must have been like to experience the flood and talks about the work of J Harlan Bretz, one of the first geologists to recognize that the bizarre oversized landforms must have been created by a tremendous flood. There is also an interactive map which provides a tour of some of the landforms, and an interactive quiz that asks students to speculate on the forces that created various landforms. Other resources include a preview and written transcript of the program; a teacher's guide and list of books and websites; and information on purchasing the program.
