States.org, provided by the Federation of American Research Networks (FARNET), Electronic Commerce, Law, and Information Policy Strategies (ECLIPS--Ohio Supercomputer Center), Arizona State University, and the National Science Foundation, has a simple mandate: to '[provide] a single clearinghouse for tracking state information infrastructure strategies and activities.' At the heart of the site is the state database, which allows users to query by state or by category in the broad areas of: government uses and regulation of the National Information Infrastructure and advanced telecommunications; relevant local and state projects related to electronic commerce, privacy, education, and other relevant subjects; and strategic plans for NII/advanced telecommunications. States.org is a valuable meta-resource for state and local government, researchers, and citizens.
